Sorry for the lack of creativity in my title. It’s too close to the end of the semester, I’m tapped out.
But I heard of something cool from Jimmy Fallon recently, and it’s called “The Couch to 5K.” And I guess it’s an exercise plan for even the laziest of couch potatoes to get fit enough to run 5k. LOL right?
I know nothing about this, so this entire post is just going to be a learning post.
There is no real “official website” to explain this program, but this site here explains the steps pretty well. I guess you listen to a podcast a week (the program is 9 weeks) and run according to the podcast.
Take a look at a short overview of weeks 1-3:
Week one
For your three runs in week one, you will begin with a brisk five-minute walk, then alternate one minute of running and one-and-a-half minutes of walking, for a total of 20 minutes.
Week two
For your three runs in week two, you will begin with a brisk five-minute walk, then alternate one-and-a-half minutes of running with two minutes of walking, for a total of 20 minutes.
Week three
For your three runs in week three, you will begin with a brisk five-minute walk, then two repetitions of one-and-a-half minutes of running, one-and-a-half minutes of walking, three minutes of running and three minutes of walking.
Here is a forum where people who are doing the program to communicate and share their progress with each other.
Here is the app.
I, unfortunately, couldn’t find an informative video on this program.
I’ve provided a 4 leaf clover for good luck in your couch to 5k journey.
The first gif speaks to me on a spiritual level.
If you’re going to be doing the program tell us how it goes! I would like to shed my title of “Couch Potato!” (But only after the semesters over cause I’m bombarded with assignments, test, work, etc. *Insert gif about dying here*)

I really want to try it but I’m also in the semester crunch!! Since it’s only three times a week, I’m going to try my best lol but I also have a knee injury so I may have to stop sooner than I’d like. But I feel you on the exhausted level haha

Cool to see your progress here Jessi! Have you ran much before? The good thing is that exercising so often boosts your energy! This article talks about it https://www.everydayhealth.com/fitness/workouts/boost-your-energy-level-with-exercise.aspx – so hopefully that would combat your tiredness!

Yes, Sarah! I used to LOVE to run, and actually, every morning before school I used to run around wascana – rain or shine. It ended up being about 18k I was running every morning, but unfortunately I suffered a knee injury and sure enough… RIP to the fit chick who ran 18k before 6 am every morning… I miss her hahaha.

I love this! I have seen quite a few apps that are for beginner runners that are similar to this concept. I would hope that an app or an online resource could make me like running but after 21 years I am not holding on to much hope! Good luck with your 5K if you decide to try one out!

What a cool concept! This actually might be one that I could stick with ha! I have found exercise helps me in multiple ways however, very hard to get motivated and stick to it when exhausted. I am excited to hear all about it if you do decide to go for it!

I know! I like the structured concept of it, which may be easy to commit to compared to the dreaded hour long cardio sessions we instantly think of when the word “running” comes to mind.
